A celebration full of color and joy

Colorful Instead of Spooky: During fall break, we’re celebrating DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS for the first time at the “ Amethyst Welt ” in Maissau ! As a colorful alternative to Halloween, we invite you to a special family festival—inspired by the traditional Mexican Day of the Dead and the popular animated film *Coco: More Alive Than Life*.

To celebrate, our grounds will be transformed into a vibrant world of experiences filled with music, creativity, and Mexican flair. The focus is on the joy of life and remembering the people who are dear to us. At the site of the world’s largest crystal skull exhibition, Mexican traditions meet the fascinating world of amethyst.

Get ready for a mariachi band “LOS MARIACHIS NEGROS”, which will liven up the atmosphere with cheerful music, and imaginative face painting for our youngest guests. Our colorful, autumnal "Path of Remembrance" invites you to marvel and explore, while creative photo spots throughout the grounds provide the perfect backdrop for your keepsake photos.

Daily Schedule: 

10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Face painting for kids

11:00 – 11:30 a.m. Family tour of the Gem House, including the special exhibition “Crystal Skulls—The Key to Hidden Worlds?”*

1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Face painting for kids 

2:00 p.m. – 3:45 p.m. Screening of “Coco – More Alive Than Life Itself” in the multimedia room

3:00 – 3:30 p.m. Family tour of the Gem House, including the special exhibition “Crystal Skulls—The Key to Hidden Worlds?”*

Throughout our opening hours, you can paint stones and join in the festivities. 

EXCLUSIVE Program on Friday, Oct. 30, and Saturday, Oct. 31:

6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Live music with “LOS MARIACHIS NEGROS”

On these two days, we'll be open until 9 p.m.

With lively rhythms, soulful songs, and magnificent traditional costumes, mariachi musicians bring a touch of Mexican flair to the “ Amethyst Welt ” in Maissau. Their music tells stories of love, home, and the beauty of Mexico—and invites you to listen, dance, and join the celebration!

A colorful program in the historic downtown area

On November 21 and 22, 2026, the historic downtown area of Eggenburg will be transformed into a festive Advent setting. Admission is free.

Around the main square, visitors can enjoy a diverse Advent market featuring regional handicrafts, Christmas tree decorations, pastries, roasted chestnuts, and mulled wine. A varied program of events—including concerts, readings, workshops, and craft demonstrations—creates a special atmosphere both outdoors and in the historic indoor spaces.

On Sunday, the popular themed city tours titled “Christmas in the Middle Ages” will also take place.
